1988 to date             Self Employed Artist

I studied at Winchester School of Art while Gillian Ayres CBE RA was head of painting.  I then worked at Marlborough Fine Art for five years.  The gallery represented Henry Moore, John Piper, Francis Bacon, Graham Sutherland, R.B.Kitaj, Frank Auerbach and many other world class artists. In order to gain more time in the studio to prepare for exhibitions I left Marlborough and worked part time at The Arts Council and The Tate Gallery before becoming a full time artist.

Several London galleries have represented me over the years, however I have been with the Linda Blackstone Gallery since 1987, and which exhibits my work in New York, Singapore, and Hong Kong in addition to the main London Art Fairs. Occasionally I now also exhibit at local venues in Buckinghamshire and Cornwall as well as though my website

Inspiration mainly comes from my local environment and travelling using photography and sketches to build up ideas. Friends and regular clients occasionally send me photos and cuttings which often trigger visual suggestions which might contribute to a new phase of work. I enjoy being out on the water, rowing on the Thames, sailing and kayaking the Cornish creeks and rivers.  All these experiences continue to be hugely influential on my work.

My subjects revolve around Life, Place and Water, but I tend to move through these in phases, using mixed media, acrylic or ink on paper and canvas, quite often returning to a subject phase if something new triggers fresh ideas. I keep all my photos, magazine cuttings and sketches (not in an organised way) and they continue to influence my work as I rediscover them.
